Northern Lights Adventure in the Lyngen Alps

The fjords of the Lyngen Alps turn a glassy blue colour as winter draws in. By now the snow line has fallen from the peaks to the shores and covered the mountains in a thick white blanket of snow. The Lyngen Alps cover a vast area of Arctic Norway, yet much of this snow remains untouched except for the odd lonely track left by a Nordic skier or arctic animal.

For a privileged few travellers, the endlessly beautiful and remote terrain of the Lyngen Alps could also be yours to enjoy. This holiday in Norway’s Arctic region begins and ends in Tromsø, a northern city with small town charm, with boutique shops, cosy restaurants, inviting bars and several attractions all within walking distance and embraced within a friendly atmosphere, before heading to a secluded island at the entrance to the Lyngenfjord. Here you will find the cosy Arctic Panorama Lodge, where guests enjoy a personal service and access to winter adventures including dog sledding, and from November through January, whale watching. With little or no light pollution, the Northern Lights are often seen in their full glory in the night skies above the lodge. An inclusive stay here offers adventure, relaxation and a chance to leave normal life behind – completely!

Today you’ll leave Tromsø, returning to the airport for your flight home. Or extend your stay with additional nights and excursions or a stay elsewhere in Arctic Norway.

Please note, the Whale season runs from November to the end of January, so the focus during this period will be searching for the whales in the Lyngenfjord. After this time, you have the choice of dog-sledding in the arctic wilderness, with up to 3 hours of mushing your own team of Alaskan huskies or you may wish to swap dog power for horsepower, and journey on snowmobiles, often in the evening searching for the magical northern lights. Also during this time, slip on snow shoes and experience the beauty and silence of the unspoilt Arctic wilderness.

The Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon and so we cannot guarantee you will witness it during your trip. The Northern Lights season begins in September and ends during April. Temperatures, colours, snowfall and hours of darkness vary considerably during this period. Compared to other Arctic destinations, Tromsø has a mild climate due to the presence of the Gulf Stream.
