There are regular trains from Stockholm, Oslo and Gothenburg direct to Karlstad, the capital of Varmland and taking approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours. On arrival at Karlstad you will be met and transferred to Fyrbo Guesthouse, situated next to Lake Grasmangen. The transfer takes 45 minutes and you will have an opportunity to stop off at a local supermarket to purchase snacks and drinks for your stay.
You will receive a warm welcome by your hosts, Richard and Julia, and will have time to settle into your accommodation. The comfortable apartments at the guesthouse vary in size depending on the number of occupants, but they all include a private bathroom, kitchenette and sitting area to relax after a day’s exertions.All meals are included, starting with a wholesome home-cooked dinner on the first night to breakfast on departure day, with large tents with dining areas and outdoor tables to enjoy eating al fresco. During the day pack lunches are included if you’re out on daytime excursions.
A big feature of this adventure stay is the social element, with guests all coming together at meal times to share stories of the day’s exploits and enjoy being outdoors under the long daylight hours.Today is the start of the active pursuits - don your walking boots and with the aid of maps and a GPS, set off on a 10km hike through forests, across wetlands and up hills, enjoying the great outdoors. There are set routes to take, but if you feel up for a longer challenge or something a little shorter, the guides can recommend alternative routes for you.
Once back at the Guesthouse, time to relax before the evening meal.After waking up to the sound of birds, prepare a leisurely breakfast before packing up your gear and getting back on the raft or canoes for a trip across the lake, heading to Fyrbo Guesthouse. There is plenty of time to slowly make your way across the lake, perhaps stopping off for a swim in the fresh waters, or having a picnic lunch.
The afternoon is free for you to enjoy the grounds around the guesthouse, take a stroll in the surroundings or go fishing in the lake.Your last active day in Sweden’s wilderness is spent trekking through the beautiful forests around Lake Grasmangen. With a map and GPS again leading the way, get ready to hit the trails and explore the area.
Once back at the guesthouse, take one last time to appreciate the calmness and beauty of this natural setting by the lake, and enjoy your last evening meal by the outdoor fire.
