The scene is set on the lake’s southern shore, where Wilderness Hotel Nangu enjoys a prime location in anticipation of the Aurora Borealis and with uninterrupted views of Finland’s snowy wilderness beyond.

This luxurious boutique lodge is an adult-only resort, offering very comfortable accommodation in the different room types and a cozy open-plan lounge and restaurant area with a log fire to relax and marvel at the winter wonderland through the panoramic windows. ITINERARY

The vast frozen expanse of Lake Inari in northern Finland sets an impressive scene for a winter trip to search the Northern Lights. At its southern shore, wilderness lodge Hotel Nangu sits in anticipation of the Aurora Borealis whilst enjoying its uninterrupted views of Finland's snowy wilderness. This break is the perfect combination of luxury and adventure, allowing time to relax in an adult only environment and enjoy Arctic adventures from the doorstep.

On arrival, your hosts will run through the final order of the itinerary with you based on local weather and snow conditions and Aurora activity. You'll also be kitted out in Arctic gear - a warm winter overall, boots and mitts. You'll need to bring additional thermal garments and gear to layer up! Our team will provide you with a kit list ahead of your travels.

Dining at Wilderness Hotel Nangu
Nangu's reception building opens up to an impressive high ceiling lounge and restaurant area with feature window overlooking Lake Inari. Guests come and go throughout the day to relax in the sofas by the fireplace and enjoy the views, with perhaps a cocktail or hot chocolate in hand. The timber walls create a cosy atmosphere during meal times. Dinner is served to the table featuring a Lappish inspired set menu in delicately presented dishes. Taste local reindeer meat, freshly caught fish from Lake Inari and foraged berries and mushrooms. Not to be missed is a Finnish Gin and Tonic complete with lingonberries and a twig of rosemary. The well-stocked bar serves a variety of wines, craft beers, soft drinks and Arctic-inspired cocktails.

Depart into the Arctic night by snowmobile and seek out the elusive Northern Lights. Your evening experience begins with a thorough safety briefing and then it's time to rev the engines. Your guide will take you along easy-going trails looking for cloud-free skies and signs of the Northern Lights. Once we reach the perfect viewing spot, we’ll get the campfire going and enjoy some hot drinks in each other's company. You'll share a snowmobile with the chance to switch places. Drivers must be at least 18 years of age, with a driving licence valid in Finland. (Single drive available for supplementary charge)

To start the day, you'll be transferred from Nangu Hotel to a Sami village, where you'll meet both reindeer and huskies. You will gain an insight into the Sami culture and the way of life in the Arctic. The knowledgeable guide will welcome you and invite you to the reindeer enclosure, where you'll listen about the local traditions and the way of life for a reindeer herder, with a chance to feed these majestic creatures - the curious animals may even eat out of your hand.
 
If there is one experience that brings you to the heart of the Arctic North, it is the thrill of dog-sledding. You'll meet an excitable team of husky dogs on this exhilarating safari in the wilderness at Lake Inari. You'll drive your own team of dogs in pairs with the chance to switch places en route. Enjoy the silence as the dogs take off on the trail and all that can be heard is the patter of paws and panting of breath. As passenger, admire the snow clad landscapes all around. As driver you'll enjoy working with the dogs on an easy-going trail through the forest. You'll receive full instruction on how to drive the team of dogs before you set off. During the day a lunch will be served.

After receiving safety information and instructions on how to drive these incredible arctic machines, you will head out along the trails into the wilderness. Exploring by snowmobile allows you to cover long distances and enjoy the different arctic landscapes. You will travel in pairs, with the opportunity to change driver along the route. During the excursion, you will make a stop for a camp lunch by the open fire and warm up with hot drinks.

Venture out after dark to explore the snow-clad surroundings of Nangu, all while seated comfortably in a sledge pulled by the guide's snowmobile. Enjoy the Arctic by night as you travel through the silent landscape to the wilderness camp on the frozen Lake Inari, well away from any artificial light pollution.  You'll be greeted with an open fire to keep you warm as you enjoy a hot drink and hopefully a chance to view the magical Northern Lights.

When it's time to leave, your hosts will transfer you to Ivalo Airport in time for your departing flight.
