Experience the magic of Lithuania from above with a breathtaking hot air balloon flight over Vilnius or Trakai. Lithuania leads the way in the number of hot-air balloons per capita, and Vilnius is one of just a small number of capitals where flights are allowed. So it’s a great opportunity for spectacular views and unforgettable memories. We have included this trip in the program and it can be taken at sunrise or sunset, subject to weather conditions.

Today you’ll pick up the rental car from the hotel and start your adventure around Lithuania. Located only 30 km away from Vilnius, Trakai is a place where history is in the air. Imagine a city surrounded by lakes and forests, with ancient castles taking centre stage. A living testimony to the times of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, Trakai was once the very heart of the country. As you enter the area, you’ll be greeted by the magnificent Gothic castle with moats - a symbol of strength and resilience, connected to the mainland by two wooden bridges. In the historic castle museum, enjoy an exhibition that reveals the impressive tapestry of Lithuanian history.

After time exploring Trakai, head north to Kernave, just 30 minutes away. Once the medieval capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and today, a vital archaeological site. This sacred ground, now part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, goes beyond mere remnants of the past, it’s a doorway to the origins of a nation. Stand atop the five hill forts of Kernave and witness a landscape that stirred the hearts of rulers from centuries ago. Visit the Archaeological Museum, where an interactive display takes you on a fun journey through 10,000 years of history. Then head back to Vilnius, your last chance to explore here further.

Optional Activities:

Water activities in Trakai - the lakes of Trakai are a great place for sailing, pedal boats, SUP or rowing boats, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and nature.

Authentic Sauna Traditions - after visiting Kernave, take a traditional sauna experience - the Lithuanian sauna is more than just relaxation, it’s a ritual of cleansing, rejuvenation and connection with nature.

We have included a guided 3-hour walking tour of the city, giving you an insight into the history, culture and modern life of Lithuania’s second largest city.

Discover the vibrant atmosphere of the city, a kaleidoscope of colour - showcasing the mix of past and the constant change of modern life. Enjoy wandering through the compact streets, coming across remnants of history, such as the awe-inspiring Kaunas Castle, a bastion against Teutonic attacks around which the town grew. Next, Vytautas the Great Church, gracefully perched on the bank of the Nemunas river - a peaceful setting that adds beauty to a rich history. Visit House of Perkunas, a 15th century merchant’s residence, then Rotuses aikste - the Old Town’s main square, lined with 15th and 16th century houses. Or if you prefer, take in some of Kaunas’ modernist architectural highlights on the art deco trail. There are plenty of fascinating sights to keep you engaged, stopping off at a local cafe for coffee and a snack, before an overnight stay in the city.

Leave Kaunas behind and continue west on the Panemune Road (route 141), this is a road steeped in the romance and drama of the nation’s past - a rich history unfolds with each turn, where the enchanting landscape includes lush countryside, glacial lakes and palatial manor houses and castles. Today, the Panemune Road is not just a historical route; it’s a scenic masterpiece, guiding visitors through picturesque vistas, eventually leading them to the Baltic Sea. After the morning's journey, stop off at Sturmu svyturys on the Cape of Vente, an authentic local restaurant, full of the old spirit of Lithuania and the only fresh fish restaurant in the country, with a daily menu depending on the catch of the day.

In the afternoon, carry on the adventure up the coast to Klaipeda. Once bearing the name Memel during its time as part of Germany, this port city carries echoes of that period in its architecture. Check-in to the hotel, then wander through the old town, a nostalgic journey that resonates with the soul of old German cities. Marvel at the unique charm of the cobbled streets with their half-timbered houses, every building stands as a testament to the culture between Klaipeda and its historical roots

With Klaipeda as your base, take a spectacular day trip to the Curonian Spit National Park, a long sliver of land that juts out into the Baltic Sea. You’ll take the short ferry trip from Klaipeda (tickets included). Witness one of Europe’s largest cormorant colonies and be captivated by the mystical beauty of the dead dunes valley.

Head along the coast to Nida, where you’ll meet a guide for a 2-hour walking tour - discover the area’s history, local fisherman’s traditions and visit the famous Parnidis Dune for stunning views. If you have time, perhaps climb the Nida Highlight Tower, a 10-metre structure without stairs, where you climb ladders to witness the magnificent sunset. There are many observation towers scattered across  Lithuania, providing breathtaking views in the most spectacular spots. Or visit the Mizgiris Amber Museum, a high-tech sensory exploration of amber, with fascinating exhibits on show.

Today you leave the west coast and head inland towards Siauliai, Lithuania’s fourth largest city, just over 2 hours away. The area's biggest draw by far lies further north of the town, with visitors descending on the Hill of Crosses, a sacred mound covered in crucifixes of all sizes. This unique site stands as testament to the spirit and diverse history etched into its landscape.

Continue east for half an hour to Pakruojis Manor, boasting the title of the largest manor in the country. Immerse yourself in the charm of its spacious park, as you wander through the carefully designed landscape of the estate and experience the elegance of buildings that have stood the test of time. Take a quick tour of the manor, enjoy a lunch and continue your journey to Anyksciai, a driving time of approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, where even more adventures await. Overnight and rest in Anyksciai.
