You’ll start in Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, before visiting the ‘must-see’ locations of Trakai, Kaunas, Klaipeda, the Curonian Spit and Anyksciai – discovering other hidden gems along the way, finally ending the journey back in Vilnius.
This epic trip highlights the many wonderful sights and attractions Lithuania has to offer, but the journey is flexible and can be adapted for your own bespoke adventure.

On arrival at Vilnius airport, you will be met and transferred to the central hotel. Check in to your 4* accommodation and meet your guide for a 3-hour walking tour of the city, learning about the history and culture of the capital.

Today you’ll pick up the rental car from the hotel and start your adventure around Lithuania. Located only 30 km away from Vilnius, Trakai is a place where history is in the air. Imagine a city surrounded by lakes and forests, with ancient castles taking centre stage. A living testimony to the times of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, Trakai was once the very heart of the country. As you enter the area, you’ll be greeted by the magnificent Gothic castle with moats - a symbol of strength and resilience, connected to the mainland by two wooden bridges. In the historic castle museum, enjoy an exhibition that reveals the impressive tapestry of Lithuanian history.After time exploring Trakai, head north to Kernave, just 30 minutes away. Once the medieval capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and today, a vital archaeological site. This sacred ground, now part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, goes beyond mere remnants of the past, it’s a doorway to the origins of a nation. Stand atop the five hill forts of Kernave and witness a landscape that stirred the hearts of rulers from centuries ago. Visit the Archaeological Museum, where an interactive display takes you on a fun journey through 10,000 years of history. Then head back to Vilnius, your last chance to explore here further.

Water activities in Trakai - the lakes of Trakai are a great place for sailing, pedal boats, SUP or rowing boats, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and nature.Authentic Sauna Traditions - after visiting Kernave, take a traditional sauna experience - the Lithuanian sauna is more than just relaxation, it’s a ritual of cleansing, rejuvenation and connection with nature.
After breakfast, take to the road again, heading west to the city of Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania. The driving time is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes
We have included a guided 3-hour walking tour of the city, giving you an insight into the history, culture and modern life of Lithuania’s second largest city.Discover the vibrant atmosphere of the city, a kaleidoscope of colour - showcasing the mix of past and the constant change of modern life. Enjoy wandering through the compact streets, coming across remnants of history, such as the awe-inspiring Kaunas Castle, a bastion against Teutonic attacks around which the town grew. Next, Vytautas the Great Church, gracefully perched on the bank of the Nemunas river - a peaceful setting that adds beauty to a rich history. Visit House of Perkunas, a 15th century merchant’s residence, then Rotuses aikste - the Old Town’s main square, lined with 15th and 16th century houses. Or if you prefer, take in some of Kaunas’ modernist architectural highlights on the art deco trail. There are plenty of fascinating sights to keep you engaged, stopping off at a local cafe for coffee and a snack, before an overnight stay in the city.
Leave Kaunas behind and continue west on the Panemune Road (route 141), this is a road steeped in the romance and drama of the nation’s past - a rich history unfolds with each turn, where the enchanting landscape includes lush countryside, glacial lakes and palatial manor houses and castles. Today, the Panemune Road is not just a historical route; it’s a scenic masterpiece, guiding visitors through picturesque vistas, eventually leading them to the Baltic Sea. After the morning's journey, stop off at Sturmu svyturys on the Cape of Vente, an authentic local restaurant, full of the old spirit of Lithuania and the only fresh fish restaurant in the country, with a daily menu depending on the catch of the day.
With Klaipeda as your base, take a spectacular day trip to the Curonian Spit National Park, a long sliver of land that juts out into the Baltic Sea. You’ll take the short ferry trip from Klaipeda (tickets included). This exquisite gem is proudly listed in the UNESCO Heritage List and hailed as one of Europe’s most unique landscapes - explore the Hill of Witches and the Stone Sculptures Park. Witness one of Europe’s largest cormorant colonies and be captivated by the mystical beauty of the dead dunes valley.
Optional Activity:
Embark on a unique and immersive Amber Search Excursion. This hands-on experience is an opportunity to not only learn about Amber, often called ‘Baltic Gold’, but you’ll also hunt for your very own piece of ancient gemstone.
Today you leave the west coast and head inland towards Siauliai, Lithuania’s fourth largest city, just over 2 hours away. The area's biggest draw by far lies further north of the town, with visitors descending on the Hill of Crosses, a sacred mound covered in crucifixes of all sizes. This unique site stands as testament to the spirit and diverse history etched into its landscape.
Explore the lively resort of Anyksciai. This charming town caters for a wide range of interests and opens its doors for you to explore historical treasures such as the old narrow gauge railway. For the more adventurous, a large labyrinth park offers a playful challenge. Every visitor can find a piece of their perfect holiday, with a harmonious combination of history, entertainment and natural charm.

A fantastic way to get in touch with nature.Continue the last leg of your journey by returning to Vilnius, 112 km away. Return the rental car and later, enjoy a delicious dinner in the charming old town.
